Default 48v reducer installation

I am getting ready to install a reducer in the front of my 2017 Precedent. Can I use the unused red wire (48v) and the black/yellow (grnd) wire off the harness to draw power to the reducer or do I need to run a separate set of wires directly to the battery?

I think I'd wire straight to the batteries. To wire the voltage reducer to the wiring harness would be inviting serious problems unnecessarily. Makes my hair stand up to think about putting the controller at risk.
