Default 215/40/12 tires, rub on Precedent?

Looking to upgrade my 2005 Precedent.

Ride height is stock and I need to keep it that way.

Some online retailers are telling me 215/40/12 sized tires will rub when turning, but can't give me much specifics.

How much rubbing are we talking about? Can anything be ground down a touch to make room?

They are recommending 215/35/12 sized tires, but I'm already nervous about ride quality with the 40 series.

Thanks,

Todd

215-40-12

215 in the width of the tire in MM (8.464")
40 = 40% of 215 is the sidewall height (3.385") (35% = 2.962)
12 = rim size

if they rub its from the top and not the side of the tire

I have a 2013 Precedent. I installed 20x8.00-12 (200/50-12) on mine. That is a 19.9" diameter, where the 215/40/12 should be 18.8". I installed a 1" lift on the front (the metal insert, so not really much of a lift). When turning sharp, the wheels will rub on the front. I also had to install a heavy duty leaf spring on the back and remove some of the fender on the back to prevent rubbing when carrying a heavier load or going up hills at an angle. So definitely possible. Potentially no change to cart, but you should be prepared to modify if needed and maybe have a very slightly reduced turn radius.

I run the same tires on stock suspension with no rubbing. They fill out the wheel wells perfectly IMO.

For what it's worth, I bit the bullet and installed 215/40/12 tire and wheel package and I'm experiencing no rubbing. If I had to guess where there might be issues, it could be in the rear if there were some very heavy people on the rear seats. The offset of the wheels causes them to stick past the fender trim by about an inch. But with my use, no rub.
