@Ronno6,

I have a 58.8v lithium pack in my 2007 Precedent with no problems. I do not know what controller is in your 1998 DS, others may be able to chime in, but my precedents controller is good for 60v. I’m confident that your DS will be similar.

To be 100% sure, get the model of your controller and check it’s specs. The motor will be fine, as will the solenoid.

Cheers
Pat.

ECO said there would be no problems with the updated components used in the Precedent. They also said that, should the DS controller fail, adapting a Precedent controller is the way to go...

I plan on contacting Club Car on Monday for their input.

ECO needs to cover themselves for any modifications done to various carts. They don't know what we are doing so they have to play it safe. Installing a drop in Lithium pack is no different than installing new FLA batteries, just a lot lighter! Voltage wise, it is a wash. And no, installing a Precedent controller is not the way to go. An Alltrax controller and converting the cart to IQ with an MCOR speed controller is. Scotty B at Carts Unlimited, can get you there easily.

You won't get far with Club Car Corp. for modifications to a 1998 DS. They will be glad to sell you a new cart, however.

If you don't understand what we are explaining here, please contact our resident Club Car guru, David Hicks, at Revolution Golf Cars, 706-431-3917. He is a site sponsor and will not steer you wrong.

This thread should have been on the Lithium Club Car group. You may have gotten more information from actual users. You may want to start a new thread there.

New carts are in very short supply, dealers cannot get them in quantity at present.

@Ronno6,

I’ve done a bit of research for you. Your cart should have a Curtis controller. Curtis designed their 48v controllers to handle up to 62 volts (30% over voltage) so a 48volt charger wouldn't blow it up if the key was left on during charge. I believe you’re overthinking this. Charge voltage for a 48v Lead Acid pack is around 60v. And as has already been stated, upgrading to Precedent specs is not the way to go, Alltrax or similar aftermarket is. Much more feature packed and flexible for future mods.

Cheers
Pat.

Now I read in another thread that lithium batteries cannot flow as many amps as lead acids???
I think that pertained to modified carts.......
What about stock motor/controller etc?

I need to sometimes tow a trailer load of dirt up an incline, tho not far.

They certainly can supply huge amounts of current when designed to do so. Large currents = expensive though.

To make sure you get a battery that is adequate to your needs it’s best to measure your maximum current and make sure to purchase a battery that can supply it.
