E-Z-GO 48 volt conversion

I have a 2004 e-z-go I just bought. It has lift kit, 20" tires, full camo dipped body, rear flip-flop seat, all seats are camo, fender flares, brush guard, clays basket, etc.
I was thinking of adding the beast motor and controller, because I hunt and would like the torque to climb or haul around other hunters, etc.

Can I convert to 48 volts( I've heard that I could go farther between charges with a 48 volt system), and if so how much trouble would it be?

It will go further between charges IF you use eight 6V batteries.
You will need:
a 48v controller
48v charger
48v solenoid
HD F&R
4g Cables

Have you done this, and do you think it is worth it for the extra mileage?
Can I use 6 - 8 volt batteries like a Club Car, or is there an advantage to using 8 - 6 volt batteries? Can I use any 48 volt charger, such as one made by Club Car, if I change the end? Does HD F&R mean heavy duty forward/reverse switch?

Yes, there is a difference in the run time when you add 2 batteries. ( approx. 30%) Electric motors burn amps and amps are stored in the batteries. 30% more batteries = 30% more amps stored.
Club car chargers will only work with the club car on-board computer in their carts. They are not stand alone units like the Lester or Yamaha chargers.
Yes, Ezgo needs a special HD F&R Switch

So you think I should use 2 more 6 volts instead of using 8 volt batteries?

Yes. I did my first conversion this way. I bought 2 used 6v batteries and added them in the bag-well area. Made some hold-downs and connected then in the middle of the pack. I found a Yamaha charger on craigslist. Bought a Controller & 48v solenoid and later learned about the HD F&R THe results are very noticeable .... More torque and then some

we have done this many times too.. we even have noticed a longer run time useing 6 8 volt batteries... alot more speed and torque ...
