Battery charger question
I installed some rebuilt 6V batts in my cart earlier this year. They still work fine but because we would only use it for short trips around the farm, I wasn't plugging in the charger every day.At first when I'd plug it in at nite the charger was off the next day. Now when I plug in the charger overnite it is still charging in the morning and the charger itself is very hot. Should I leave it on and let it shut of by itself still?
Right now the batts read 34.7V. and it still pulls fine. any thoughts? |

Re: Battery charger question
Likely you have one bad battery...... S/G and voltage checks will confirm ~ I suspect. Typical for recons
Better get it fixed before you do any controller damage running it at low amperage. |

Re: Battery charger question
Specific Gravity. Test done with a simple hydrometer bought from auto parts store. (not the kind with balls for antifreeze) But the temp compensating type for batteries. Any way they tell lots more than voltage as you get the true health or activity in each cell. One weak cell in one battery will cause the trouble you describe. My guess is one of your batteries is 4 volts anyway. LOL
You are down 2 volts = you lost a cell. |

Re: Battery charger question
Each battery measures 5.79 to 5.82 V. I'll go pick up a S/G tester right now .
I'll be back |

Re: Battery charger question
Good news in those reading. They are all even and all cells are alive, just low...... S/G test results for each cell need to be recorded and posted here.
I gotta go but most here can help you read the results & figure out what's going on. |
