1996 EZGO stop and go
1996 TXT EZ GO. In 2010 I replace the motor and controller and cables. 2009 or 2008 batteries were replaced. I’m having problem with it again. It will drive fine to a point and when you come to a stop it just won’t move. I can hear solenoid kick in and a clicking sound. If I let it sit for a few minutes it’ll try and move, but just a inch, like motor kicking in and die. Then it’ll kick in and you can drive it back to park it and sometimes it’ll die where you park it and sometimes you can drive it for a little. When I drive it it works great and accelerates great like there’s no problem. I unfortunately let the water get too low in the batteries and they were pretty low, I filled them and charged them and checked voltage on each battery. Voltage on each battery was 6.3 to 6.4 volts, total voltage across all batteries was 37.3. I know that’s low but is that low enough to just make it stop and then go. The cart works great and it doesn’t do it when its fresh off the charger but not more than 100 yards if you stop it won’t go again unless you let it sit a few minutes.
Any help would be great. |

Re: 1996 EZGO stop and go
Series Drive or DCS? (If it has a Run/Tow switch on controller cover it's a DCS)
You might be hitting the Low voltage cutoff if it is a series. (DCS doesn't have one, so the controller may be failing) Also might be a battery or two failing. What is the pack voltage when it's misbehaving? |

Pretty sure DCS. It has a run and tow switch.
I believe it was about 36 volts but no more than 36.7 |

ah oh.....if the pack voltage is only 36.7, they are about dead, as 36v even is 50% and is considered dead......with a FULL charge, they should be at or about 38.2v

Re: 1996 EZGO stop and go
A starting point would be replace the batteries and if condition duplicates its self I have another problem. I thought this would be the conclusion but was hoping maybe something else. This was my fault I neglected the batteries over the summer by not filling them when low. Thanks and ill be sure to post the outcome when they’re replaced.

Also check the individual voltage of the batteries, It is possible there is 1 bad one??

Re: 1996 EZGO stop and go
If one or more batteries are bad and you continue to operate in a low voltage condition you will smoke the DCS control. I've seen it happen in one short ride. The system draws additional amperage to make up for the lacking voltage. They all do this but, the DCS control has no built in protection against damage caused by the high temp caused by the high amp draw.
