When slightly depressing gas pedal motor is at full speed
I am new to this site so any information provided will be appreciated.
I found out some interesting information today that causes questions. 1. When following the ITS testing procedure it says " With the key on and in forward gear press the accelerator just enough to activate the solenoid". Then using a jumper wire from the B+ (battery) to the solenoid (side with red wires) test the volts in the 5 pin connector. Here is my question.... When turning the key on and attaching the jumper as stated in the testing procedure should the motor be running without touching the accelerator? Even with the key in the off position and jumping from the B+ to the solenoid (Red wire side) the motor runs at wide open. This cart is new to me and I have noticed that SOMETIMES when pressing the accelerator the ITS switch operates as it should as soon as the microswitch (in the ITS) is activated the motor will run slow then faster as you press the accelerator as it should. However, other times (More often than not) when pressing the accelerator the motor runs at full speed rather than accelerating as it should. (Hence my problem) Any thoughts? This has me stumped on where to turn next. |

Water or moisture in the ITS unit or pedal box.
Remove floor mat and inspection cover - use hair dryer to remove moisture. Re test operation |

Re: When slightly depressing gas pedal motor is at full speed
Hey Scotty, Thanks for the reply. It is dry. No moisture at all. When using the jumper wire from the battery to the solenoid should it turn the motor/wheels even when the key is off? I followed the testing procedure for the ITS as stated I was confused when I had power to the rear wheels even with the key in the off position.

Don't put the cover on the pedal box yet. I think Scottyb is on the right track with the ITS being the problem. I had the same symptom with my old Series cart. I have some more ITS troubleshooting tips if scottyb don't mind. Are you working on a series cart or what?

Re: When slightly depressing gas pedal motor is at full speed
Put the jumper away for now. When you press the pedal and the solenoid clicks does the motor still run fast? (want to make sure we still have the problem)

Re: When slightly depressing gas pedal motor is at full speed
The next step if you still get the fast motor when the solenoid clicks, unplug the wires from the ITS module in the pedal box and repeat test. If the motor still runs you may have the problem I had with moisture in the ITS connector. The cart wanted to take off even without the ITS connected. I will check back later.

Jumper wire is away..... I will try what you suggested this afternoon and get back to you with results.
Thanks again for your help. |

Re: When slightly depressing gas pedal motor is at full speed
The cart would act like you described and motor run because you have bypassed the key switch and the pedal micro switch and there is something causing the controller to sense there is ITS input. This is a dangerous condition especially to work on. Make sure you have the rear wheels off the ground where the cart won't move. Lots of people have been injured by run away golf carts.

Re: When slightly depressing gas pedal motor is at full speed
Yes it could have been a bad situation. I am glad I thought ahead of time to raise the rear wheels before trying anything. I did not get a chance yet to try your recommendation about disconnecting the wires on the ITS. Once I test that I will let you know the results.
