can i add a 12volt battery instead of a 8volt to my pack and gain 4volts?

hi guys i was wanting to up the voltage in a 4wd cart we are buiilding here at the shop ( 2014 yamaha drive) and at first i wanted to add a 6 volt to my pack, but now im thinking i might just want to replace one (or two if theres no real problems) of my 8v's with a 12v. the electric yamaha drives just have so much extra room under the seat it gets the mind wandering. ive heard of guys adding another 6 volt to there 36 system and loving it.

thoughts?

also just incase you were wondering the 4wd kit we are using it rated for 60v so its not a problem.

You cannot mix 6v and 8v or 8v and 12v batteries in the same pack. The Amp hour capacity are different so the discharge and recharge rates, limits, and needs are different.

the chargers put out 54 when charging dont they? also i figured i might have to charge the extra battery seperate if we did decide to do this.

kinda just day dreaming at the moment, you guys are all much smarter then me im just curious. i have 20-30 new batteries laying around and my mind started running.

Keep in mind that in order to fully charge a 48 volt pack that you may see voltage as high as 65 volts...

You will need a new charger even if you add an 8V battery to go to 42. Better to go all the way to 48 and replace everything that needs to be upgraded to do 48V. Part way is not worth the $$ you will have to spend. Keep in mind that it is very important to match your batteries in capacity and age. Mixing either capacity or age is going to reduce the life of your batteries.

we are already at 48. im looking to go to maybe 56 now

Your controller will not take 56V without failing and you will need a charger that may be hard to find. The solenoid is also not rated for 56V.
