Re: G5E resistor upgrade??
Yes you can upgrade the system to a "controller" set up. You would need a "controller" (Curtis makes a very easily to install unit), a "pot box" (Curtis also makes a managable assy called a PB-6, that has the potentiometer and micro switch to activate the solenoid). The hardest part is the location of the controller, those G5 battery compartments are pretty tight. Good luck

Re: G5E resistor upgrade??
SB, you beat me to it, i have wanted to convert a sunclassic for a long time. SPM800 ??? but i might add, you could save the cost of a PB-6 by installing resistors and a capacitor to the speed board, kinda like a clubcar v-glide.

Re: G5E resistor upgrade??
I too have a 1990 G5E, and want to upgrade to a solid state system. When I look at controllers I get confused a little. Is the electric motor on the Sun Classic a series or a shunt motor? Also what sort of amp capacity should the controller have, may want to upgrade motor later.

Re: G5E resistor upgrade??
G5 is definitely Series. 400a would be a good choice, not too much for the stock motor, good enough for upgraded motor.
