So close....need help with negative posts on voltage reducer
HELP!!!! I am so close to finishing my weekend project.
I installed a 30amp voltage reducer (48 volt Yamaha G22e) as well as my iPhone/MP3 amp/stereo unit, LED headlight kit, battery meter, etc. After reading tons of posts on here, I bought a marine distribution bar for the negative accessories rather than have them all piled up on my negative battery pack. I made a cable from the neg. battery pack to the distribution bar. All the negative feeds from my accessories are hooked up to this distribution bar except my battery meter. As such, the battery meter works fine. However, my headlights work when I remove the negative from the distribution bar and touch it directly to the negative post on battery pack. Which means.......I have done something wrong with this distribution bar. I was thinking this is/was the same thing as a terminal block. What am I doing wrong and is a terminal block and a distribution bar different items or the same thing? Thanks for any help. Sorry for the rookie question |

Check continuity on your wire. I always prefer to use a ground stud

Re: So close....need help with negative posts on voltage reducer
The reducer "-" is not "isolated" from the battery pack "-", nor does it need to be. It isnt broken. Since it is not necessary to have an isolated "-" circuit, the reducer was not built to isolate the "-" due to the added expense to include this non-essential feature. What you are seeing is totally normal. But, beware, some of the cheap ebay digital meters require pack voltage and 12v or 5v Isolated power source to illuminate the led portion of the unit. Non isolated power sources will ruin some of the cheap ebay meters (i learned the $ way).
