Yamaha Drive surges when being driven
I have a 2009 Yamaha drive electric golf cart. We moved from Texas to Virginia last week and when the movers took it off the truck it started to surge every time you apply the gas pedal. When I start off it hesitates then accelerates quickly. Once I am traveling at a constant speed the cart surges then slows down and continues to repeat the surge and slow down. Anyone have any suggestions? I have pulled the main fuse and reinstalled it hoping to reset it but that had no effect. Thanks

Re: Yamaha Drive surges when being driven
There are a few really good Yamaha techs on the board. They will be along I'm sure. They will likely want to know your battery configuration (4 12s, or 6 8s) and battery voltages when this happens. Welcome and good luck.

Good point. I've got 4 12 Trojans. 1.5 years old and in excellent shape

Re: Yamaha Drive surges when being driven
Look at the end of the motor not attached to the axle. Look for a pigtail with 3 wires and a white plug. Be sure it is attached to the electrical harness on the cart.

Re: Yamaha Drive surges when being driven
I looked for the 3 wire pigtail and could not find one. I did check all the connections I can see. Is the 3 wire pigtail hidden from view? Thanks again for all the help!

Re: Yamaha Drive surges when being driven
Its about 5 inches behind the tow/run switch. Not too hard to find. Has a red, green, and black wire.

Re: Yamaha Drive surges when being driven
Searched the entire wire harness. Still didn't find the plug you describe but I also didn't find anything unplugged or lose. Do you happen to have any more suggestions? Thanks again for your help.

Re: Yamaha Drive surges when being driven
If you cannot find something as simple as the tach sensor wire, im afraid i may not have any other suggestions but consider finding a golf cart mechanic. I will try and post a pic of what you are looking for. Any "sepex" cart that is driving erratic, i check tach sensor first.

Re: Yamaha Drive surges when being driven
I found a picture online and looked at where it is on the wiring diagram. I now see why I shouldnt have any issue finding it. Not at home right now to look, but I am not sure it was not sheered off as I don't remember seeing any wires exiting the non-drive side of the motor.
