Default Clutch binding up

The clutch on my G16 has bound up on me while driving in high speed. When stopped the drive belt is wedged in the clutch tight making me have to push start it to get it going. When I took the dust cover off it I noticed that there are 3 what look like arms in a chuck and one of them was stuck straight out so the clutch wouldnt release the belt. I just tapped it and it freed it, but it keeps happening. Is the clutch bad or is the belt so worn that the clutch is closing to far? Thanks

The rollers probably have flat spots and should be replaced. Removal of the clutch is easy, but you need a Yamaha puller bolt. I sent a clutch to Plowmans for a rebuild and couldn't be happier.

usually rollers are bad, but it could be rollers And excessive clutch wear allowing weight overtravel. check area @ blue arrows. this example IS No Good.

Good point GCtech. Also, worn belt and secondary clutch sheave wear and or circlip sliding towards transaxle case could effect the primary.

A nice upgrade is to just put the Team clutch on it and be done.

team clutch not great. no grease fittings for service. eats belts. no service parts. no longer available from yamaha. new yamaha FBT clutch is better.
