2000 CC Cylinder Head leaking...

Okay...pulled the head this morning on suspicion that I have a leak (engine made somewhat of a chirping noise when starting). Definitely see some burn marks on one side of the head. Manual says tolerance for head warp is no greater than .002 and in that same area of the head I am measuring about
.006 - .008 which I am presuming means the head is indeed warped. So...my question...is the only fix is a new cylinder head I presume? Also, since I have the engine broken down this far any additional thing I should do? Thanks everyone.

Have the head machined down,Give Tom a call at CPP. If its a 290 have it machined 30 to 50 thousands.

Or try to retorque the head see if that helps

Check what the stock valve to piston clearance is ..... you may have to do a little measuring and addition .... and then have it milled a bit, 0.050 would improve compression and not be so much as to mess with the starter etc..... sounds like a fun project. My guess is you will be able to feel that in the seat of your pants while driving. We have done it to the old flatheads and the ezgos so why not the FEs? Keep us posted

Thanks for the replies. Took it down to a small engine repair shop and they are going to mill it down for me. Just like you guys mentioned he will go between .030 and .050. While at it they're going to look at the cylinder walls etc and make sure all is okay.

Did make some headway today though...rebuilt the starter, carb, fuel pump, and ran new fuel lines.

Decided I'm going to paint her black so I will be delving into the forum to see exactly how to prep and what paint to use on the body. Lot of firsts for me here but having a lot of fun!
