slight back fire club car gas/need mor speed!

Once again the mysteries of the golf cart have me scratchin my head. I put a ne carb on fe350 engine 1997. It fixed the power problem and all is well except that when i decellerate there is a slight backfire, not a bang more like a cough. How can this be corrected. And how can I get more speed? any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

It sounds as though the carb butterfly is not fully closing at closed throttle, fuel is being drawn in when you let off the pedal and is detonating when you take off again. Very common. For more speed, I suggest you read the stickies at the top of the forum but caveat emptor. Be carefull
