Default DF82 engine throttle linkage bracket bolts snapped off- how to fix?

I was trying to get the carb off to clean it out after sitting all winter. I decided to remove the throttle linkage bracket from the engine to more easily remove the linkage from the carb. There was only one bolt left on the bracket, the other was snapped off by some previous owner. Well this last bolt must have been aluminum because it didn't take much force to snap it also.

With both bolts snapped off I don't have a way to secure the bracket.

I figure I need to drill out the bolts and retap.

Is the bolt aluminum? Anyone know what size (length specifically)?

Any advice on alternatives? Or the drill and tap process?

Thanks!

I'd try an "ez-out" first!

Drill a hole in the center of the broken part of the bolt,
insert the ez-out, and turn counter clockwise, the ez-out will drive itself further into the bolt,
and at the same time possibly turn the threaded part out!
Most of the time it works... there are only a very few times it doesn't!

ez-out's are available at any auto parts stores and DIY centers!

good luck!

Get some " PB Blaster " or " Kroil ". Drill out like Lockman said, but put either of these penetrating oils on the bolt and inside where you drilled the hole. Leave it set overnight and then try to remove the broken bolt. Both of these oils work great, but you have to let them soak for awhile.
By the way, these are steel bolts. They may be hardened steel, so be patient with the drilling!

oh you need to very very very careful if your gonna drill it.........take it from me been there more then once and done that.....i can,t give you any advice other than to tell you to make certain if your gonna drill make sure you use a center puch and start dead center of broken peice and if you get really lucky the broken peices will turn out rather easy......its not hard to ruin that head peice and if you do you may never find another one.......also the starter bracket bolts do the same thing.............good luck....................

Thanks for the advice!

I've tried using an Easy-out before without success so I didn't consider one for this problem. If I can find the set I have I give it a try.

Somehow I lost the bolt head yesterday when a neighbor dropped by. Any guess on the size of the bolt?

Thanks again

I was successful with drilling a hole thru the bolt. There was only about a 1/4" of bolt and then the rest of the hole behind it. I didn't have any metric bolts so I drilled to thread a 10-32 size which is smaller than the original (so if I ever want/need to do it again I can go back to the original size). Its all back together and functioning as it should.

Thanks for the help!
