Default Powerdrive3 Charger Not Charging

Hello Everyone,

I have a PowerDrive3 Charger and it is not charging; it was charging a week ago. I have a 2008.5 CC Precedent IQ and the installed battery charge meter is currently showing 49.5 volts across the four 12 volt batteries.

By the way, I purchased the cart in September 2011 and the four Trojan batteries were in the cart when it was delivered. I presume they have been in the cart since new; however, I can't confirm this.

Any ideas? Thanks!

There's either something wrong with the charger or the Onboard computer on the car has failed. That is, assuming that all of the battery cables and charger receptacle wiring is all intact. Can you check your charger on another car somewhere else? If you have a friend or relative with the same setup you could rule out or confirm the charger as the issue.

I can drive the cart and it performs without issue. Will the OBC be functional if the cart can operate or is this a separate issue?

The OBC has several circuits inside it. Only one of which controls the charger. It is possible for one or more circuits to fail, so it's very possible that you have a bad OBC but can still drive the car.

Presuming that I have a bad OBC, could the DPI Accusense 15 amp charger be used to charge the batteries (4 12 volts) without having to bypass the OBC? I will also need to see if I can find another CC Precedent to test if the PowerDrive3 charger is working.

I researched the price of a new OBC and it is about $70.00 cheaper than the DPI Accusense 15 amp charger.

If you deside to go with a DPI know that there are two versions; one that interfaces with the OBC and one that does not. I want to and will remove the OBC from my cart so when my PD3 went south I went with a DPI that does not interface and ran my charging leads straight to the battery I did nothing else. As time allows I'll jumper out the needed circuits that the OBC still controls and be done with it.

teecro,

Thanks. I understand your response as meaning that I can charge the batteries in my cart wihout bypassing the OBC. Does the DPI have charge leads for the battery pack and a plug for the receptacle on the cart? Is one or the other used?

UPDATE!! UPDATE!!

I inadvertently did not connect the red positive wire from the charge receptacle to the positive terminal of the #1 battery (4 12 volts). The charger is now working again.

My oversight led to much grief on my part; however, I thank all again who responded to my initial inquiry.

Godspeed!!!!!
