engine size recommendations
Aloha everyone. I'm new to the forums and tried searching for my answer with no luck. i just picked up a 2009 ezgo elec RXV and i want to convert to gas. Can you tell what would be the minimum size gas engine to use? the cart will be used on a farm for getting around and some medium duty carrying, mainly tools, nothing heavy. no hills to climb. I don't want to be underpowered or vise versa with the engine selection. Mahalo for checking my post.

Re: engine size recommendations
Can I just ask why you don't just buy a gas RXV? That way you save a lot of work.

Re: engine size recommendations
Most electric carts have no reverse plus the frames are not the same,no trottle likage and stuff like that not saying cant be done but you would be better off fixing it as it is selling and starting with gas ii just worked on a cart someone did this to and it works but not well.find an old txt gas and let the fun begin

Re: engine size recommendations
$200 for a 2009? Sounds like you might wanna run those numbers, might be stolen. That is less than 10%,the "going rate" normal price for that cart. Sounds too good to be true. The way the electric Rxv frame & suspension is built, you are gonna have a hard time figuring out a way to keep the motor at a set distance from the stock axle. Keeping the correct relationship with the chain or belt is gonna cause you problems.

Re: engine size recommendations
You will have to replace the entire rear end to do this. It is not an easy conversion.

Re: engine size recommendations
$200 that's a deal if the cart is in decent shape!
1st thing, Do you want reverse? If so you will need a 4 stroke rear end! They have reverse built in. AS stated on a gas, belt or chain drive the rear end and engine have to move together. There are ways, but none are easy! Gas rear end, swing arm, clutches, engine plus the mods for F+r switch, wiring, battery, charging system, It get very involved and not cheep! Good luck. Let us know what you come up with. As far as engine HP, some stock carts only have 8 or 9 hp. Cart rear end are geared so low ( 12 to 1 ) the don't need much HP. |

Re: engine size recommendations
Mahalo evertone for your input. Big thanks to gearhead for the infor. I haven't done a project in a while so I'm up for the challenge. I have a 13 horsepower Honda engine off a pressure washer so I guess that should be sufficient. I do want reverse on the cart but I'm not familiar with the four stroke rear end? Since he rear end gearing is so low any recommendations on sprocket sizes. Thanks guys

Re: engine size recommendations
Don't think you would be happy with a gear/chain set up!
Carts use a clutch set up, one on the rear end and one on the engine that gives you a gear ratio change as rpm's increase. Acts like a transmission to some extent. You have a Honda engine, that's good. You will need to check what rpm's it is capable of. looking for about 3500 rpm's If I were you I would try to find a gas cart the you can look at to see how things work. If you could find an old gas ezgo maybe with a blown engine or something for cheep would be your best way to go. Vegas carts offers a kit with swing arm, clutches, belts etc.. Take a look at their site. Good Luck Keep us informed on your progress! |
