Re: Strange RXV Issue - for the geeks
Encoder is the speed sensor on the motor, the big difference from a "tach sensor" like used on DC sepex models is this: it is actually 2 sensors in one, slightly offset in a fashion that it can tell which direction the motor is spinning too. Ok, so realistically testing an encoder may be above your level, pretty much requires an oscilloscope. (Which can be had very cheap on the China sites like banggood, if you're inclined to try out a 'scope that you can fry with little consequence).

When it does it the next time, pull back on the accelerator pedal to make sure it is returning home then try to see if it goes. I've had a few that get dirty and don't come all the way back without a little pull. If that's the case, you can clean the dirt out around the spring to get it working again.

I'm leaning toward the encoder problem. Can someone tell me if that can ever make a noise? When it runs, there is no bearing noise whatsoever. But 2-3 times, when just switching on and jerking the cart, there is a "not nice" brief noise from that area. The brake is working and sounding too good for me to think that is it. I thought the noise might be a brake noise resulting from me jerking it and turning it on, but it's a 'funny' sound - not normal - and very well related. |

Re: Strange RXV Issue - for the geeks
Even though your brake seems to be working, I would take it off and check it. It's easy to take off and take it apart to check for corrosion. Shortly before my brake failed, every time I used my RXV, I had to turn it on and off several times to get it to run. My brake burned up because it wasn't releasing completely. Once I replaced the brake everything was back to normal. I fixed a friends cart that wouldn't move by cleaning the brake.
If you do take the brake off be sure and align the disc when you replace it. Plug the brake in, put it in tow, then install the three bolts loosely. Then tighten the bolts with it in tow. Also the three bolts that hold the brake to the motor must be tightened evenly. Use a torque wrench and only tighten them to 50 in/lbs. |
