1996 48v ds speed issues
I am sure this has been asked and answered before but I could not find it. Here goes 96 48v ds just installed a new obc, charged trojan 185 batteries individually and also with the power drive charger. The batteries are 18 months old.they all charged to between 8.2 and 8.4 volts. Total on the pack is 49.2v. The cart is very slow. Cables are new. Can it be the solenoid? Charger is fine as I tried it on another cart and it charged it to 51.6 v. Could the charger receptacle on the cart be an issue. It was replaced with an aftermarket unit a couple of years ago.
Thanks in advance. |

Try resetting OBC.
Your charge voltage is not right. You should have 51+ volts 24 hours after full charge. How long does charger run after plugged into your cart? |

Re: 1996 48v ds speed issues
Trojan 185 is a marine/RV battery. Substantially under spec for operating a golf cart. Should be Trojan T1275 if 12 volt batteries are to last any amount of time. Because its a 1996 that cart SHOULD have 6 x 8v Trojan T875. I doubt that OBC knows how to charge those lightweight batteries! 18 mos might be all you can get from those.

Re: 1996 48v ds speed issues
Sorry they are the 875 fat batteries. The charger runs for several hours but I feel it is shutting off early. Especially with the voltage. The charger is charging 2 other carts to full voltage. Not sure why it shuts off early on this cart. Any ideas? Thanks

Re: 1996 48v ds speed issues
Sounds like at least one of your batteries is failing. Hook your voltmeter to each battery one-at-a-time and drive uphill (or accelerate hard) . The bad one(s) will drop voltage and show themselves.
