Default Upgrade questions

I have an ezgo txt dcs that I upgraded to an alltrax xct 400amp controller. I thought about upgrading to 48 volt because the controller is good for 36-48volts. Other than my current 36volt battery meter is there anything else that I need to worry about?

You will need a solenoid capable of 48 volts, and a charger for 48 volts.

Also, if you are going from a 6 x 6V 36V pack to a 6 x 8V 48V pack, you'll need longer cables within the battery pack. (Both posts are on the same side of 8V batteries.)

Pretty sure I can fit two more 6volts next to the other batteries but I did notice the upgrade from my 3bank on board marine charger to a 4bank is fairly expensive. I am good on the cables and I guess I need the super duty solenoid.

Before you spend a lot of money on a low amp 4 bank charger that is not designed for golf cart batteries, go ahead and get a DPI charger and do it right. Your batteries and wallet will thank you later.

Golf Cart Batteries are unique. They are the only lead acid battery that can feed a 300 amp draw and laugh about it. Their recharging needs are unique also. They recharge in a 3-5 stage algorithm. The fist stage is the bulk replenishment where 80% of the charge capacity is replenished. The proper rate for the bulk charge is 10% of capacity or 18-20 amps for most Golf Cart batteries. If the amperage is too low the batteries will not release the gasses so commonly referred to as 'boiling'. This boiling moves the heavy elements off the bottom of the cells and keeps the batteries healthy. Without this action the cells stagnate and the batteries die prematurely. Use only Golf Cart chargers - not marine or solar.
