Lift & Tire advice
I have a 36v TXT stock series motor and controller. runs 12mph-ish with stock 18.5" links.
I would like to lift and add larger tires. Basically all flat areas, and mostly paved. Will my motor and controller handle this and still run similar speeds? (I assume the loss of torque will negate the additional mph from larger tires) Thoughts and opinions before I waste money. Thank you in advance, and you cannot offend me! |

Re: Lift & Tire advice
my 98 TXT just like yours...same mph... went to 22" tires and 5" lift
almost exactly the same speed, but suffered the appropriate loss of torque, a few hills here, but most noticeable was loss of speed with passenger of any tonnage.. (that's all I will say)...... and it REALLY suffered climbing any grade.... next battery replacement, went with 6x8v (48v)Trojans and a "Scottyb 485" package.... by far the best use of $$$..... |

Re: Lift & Tire advice
Should I change to an Admiral mot-b1 motor? Then do lift and 22" tires on stock controller?

Re: Lift & Tire advice
There are several flavors of 36V series EZGO carts, Marathon, Medalist, TXT, MPT and Workhorse to name a few and they use a variety of controllers as well as having more than one differential gear ratio, so knowing what you have would help.
Also, what is the end goal, cosmetic or performance? ------------ In general terms, there is a speed gain on level ground from taller tires unless low pressure tires are installed, but due to the effective reduction in torque, the cart will slow more on hills. The torque reduction will keep cart from reaching the theoretical speed, but it'll be significant, unless something is holding it back. (Bad cables for instance.) A motor, such as the MOT-B1, will reduce the amount of slowing on hills and may increase the speed on level ground a bit. Increasing the battery pack voltage increases both torque and speed, but requires a controller, solenoid and battery charger that is compatible with the higher voltage. |

Re: Lift & Tire advice
JohnnyB- mostly cosmetic, but I lose speed on slow grades with 4 people on board.
New batteries Tested all wires(look origional) I tried 2 motors with same speeds. 11-12 unless downhill then 12-13 Goal is mostly cosmetics. I am thinking 6 inch lift with 23" turf tires(steeling) New mot-b1 motor And new 4 gauge wires. Speed limit is 10 where I use it, but I still want to run 11 with slight hills. TIA |

Re: Lift & Tire advice
All carts lose speed going uphill and hills slow series drive carts the most.
The steeper the hill and the heavier the load, the greater the speed loss. Also, the taller the tire height, the greater the speed loss. Going from a 18.5" tall rear tires to 23" will reduce torque by 20%, so the speed loss on hills will be considerably greater than it is now, other factors equal. A higher than stock torque motor such as the MOT-B1 and 4Ga cables (all 13 of them) will mitigate the speed loss somewhat. |

Re: Lift & Tire advice
You can increase tire size on TXT's without a lift.
sometimes you must add longer shackles to rear or air ride shocks to front. exact tire size depends on which txt-ish you are talking about... |

Re: Lift & Tire advice
1996 txt by tag, metal medalist body.
I regularly carry 600 pounds. Between people and gear. 2 adults, dogs, 2-3 kids... Used at Sandy pines in Michigan. Pretty flat paved roads. Am I just screwed? Somehow I thought the series carts were better for this type of work. Is there a better, more viable choice for em to wast a few dollars? Like no lift, 20" tires, etc. I am even ok with stock wheels and look if there is something fun to do. The problem I have is with a speed limit of 10, a 30 mph cart will just be trouble. I am starting to think I should give up on this cart. |
