Any RXV's here with 15" wheels?
Just picked up a 2017 Elite, trying to decide on wheels. Couple distributors are now offering 15s, wondering how they look and drive.

Re: Any RXV's here with 15" wheels?
More important than wheel size is tire size, as that is what affects the final drive ratio. The Elite is even more sensitive to oversized tires due to the delicate power balance between the controller operation and the battery packs BMS that supervises it. There is nothing in the controller that allows this to be changed, and absolutely no adjustment in the BMS is possible with the Curtis programmer or handset. You are stuck with the factory settings. At least with aftermarket Lithium battery systems, you have options for higher current packs and BMSs to drive larger wheels. Not so with the factory Elite system.

I'd be fine with it slowing down some. Right now it does 28 MPH on the straights with the tiny factory tires and wheels.

I'm not talking about the mismatch just slowing or speeding up the cart. I'm talking about the torque stress of tires too large causing damage to your controller AND the BMS/Lithium Pack. You cannot just go out and buy a replacement Elite controller for a few hundred $. It'll cost you thousands of $ to repair the damage you'll do from putting ovrersized tires on the cart without changing the rear end gears to keep the torque load of the motor within the acceptable range that the system was designed for. The cost to repair it is much higher than an ordinary RXV. Large tires look cool, but they do put added stress on the drive systems of all vehicles that they are put on... |
