Default Aftermarket controller option

Just bought 2 project carts. They are TXT’s. They have the 36v motors just no controllers. I’d like to get as much as I can out of the motors. The motors are “advanced” brand with a date of 3/20/07. They have s1, s2, A1, A2 posts. Part number is A02-4012. It is a Series motor

Hi Nick....you say you want to get the most out of the motors. with a series drive system, if you want to get more out of the drive system, as in more speed or torque, there is only one way to do that.....and that is to go from 36v to 48v, and that will require a new controller (400a or 500a), SD solenoid and HD F&R switch, upgrade to either 2 ga. or 4 ga. cables depending on whether you go with 400a or 500a controller.

the jump from 36v to 48v will get you an increase of 33% in both speed and torque using the stock motor.

If they are stripped down that far you could also sell the motors and convert them to sepex. Last one I did I used a Curtis 1268 that let me tune two different modes so one for low speed and torque and the second one for speed. Pretty simple. Alltrax would let you do similar.

And if you did not get chargers with the cart and you will need need new batteries anyway, this upgrade will have only very minimal costs.

What is the scale used that has this minimal cost?

The cart is getting fixed, we will hypothetically call that "already decided" (or why would he have bought it). The cost difference of going 48v is the scale that is used.

Already have to buy batteries, go 48v - $0 (difference than staying at 36v)
Already have to buy chargers, go 48v - $0 (difference than staying at 36v)
Using stock motors on 48v - $0 (difference than staying at 36v)

Battery cables, hd f&r, hd solenoid- will have to buy.

Things are looking up for an upgrade! If you ever want to do it, now's definitely the time.

Estimate
HD fnr =169.00
2 gauge cables =199.00
HD solenoid starting around 79.00

@$479.00. Vs 0.

And I was thinking more about scales like this

0-50 very easy to justify
51-100 easy to justify
101-300 I really want this
301-500 the shop/experts say my cart won't move without
501+ everyone else is jumping off the bridge so why not me 2

Cart will definitely need a controller. Not sure what other components are there but probably need replacing anyway. I believe what is trying to be said is if you have to buy the parts anyway, go 48.. I would just go the extra step and convert to sepex to eliminate the fnr switch and gain speed..

He could also go with a Navitas Controller which can work as either series or sepex and stay series for now and upgrade to Sepex Motor later without having to buy a new controller.

Also, if he turned the controller performance down, he could stick with stock wires, Solenoid, and F/R switch and it would be no worse off and no more money and would have a nice 48v system that could easily be upgraded and turned up later.

Either way, I would do everything possible to get to 48v system if I had to replace all those parts anyway.
