Default How to recognize heavy duty F&R?

I have a 2004 EZGo Txt with a lift-kit (from before my time). I was noticing a burning smell and found the cables from the F&R unit to the motor were hot. So I upgraded them from 6 to 4 gauge but they're still overheating. I've read that if you upgrade with a lift-kit you should also upgrade the F&R unit with a heavy duty version. Wondering if this is the source of my overheating problem.

First, is this my logical next step, and 2) is there a way I can visually tell if the F&R unit in my cart now is original or heavy duty without removing it.

Thanks.

If the cables are getting hot, they are too small for the amps they are carrying.
In other words 4Ga may not be thick enough.

Are the cables hot throughout their length, or just at their ends?

What make/model and ampacity of the controller?
What is the tire height?
What is the max inflation pressure embossed on tire's sidewalls?
What motor, stock or aftermarket? (What make/model if aftermarket?)

HD F/Rs have thicker bus bars on the cam, but without a stock one for comparison you probable won't be able to tell the difference even if you manage to see them.

Thanks! Took me a while, but your advice kept me thorough. Running great now with a heavy duty F&R and 2ga cable. Cool as an ice cube.
