Default Battery Meter

ok, 2 questions:

1. Recommendations for a battery meter to install in dash? (48v)
2. With the % meters, is that based on what you should drive it down to, or is 10% the "you've ruined your batteries" mark, and I should plug in when the meter reads 50%?

Another vote for Scotty's meter! I wouldn't even consider a % style meter, just get a digital readout voltage meter so you can see exactly what your batteries are doing.

Yep, don’t mess around with the % or bar style meters, get a digital one that reads actual pack voltage. Scottyb’s are great: https://www.cartsunlimited.net/battery-meters.html

Thanks. Just ordered from Scottyb. I was eyeing the % meters for ease of my wife. But if 50% on the meter is "charge me now!" then might as well just tell her when it reads 48v, it's time to stop and charge.

Last question - Would the meter just use the key switch hot/ground so the meter turns off with the key?

Yes you can wire it so it shuts off with the key, but know that the key switch circuit is the hot (+) side, so you’ll still need to either run your own ground from the main pack negative or find one behind the dash (if there is one).

makes perfect sense. The key just is a gate for hot. Thanks
