Mounting question for long roof - spacers to use?
Hi there,
Just bought a Precedent and the prior owner put on a long roof. Right now it is creating all sorts of squeaking around the current bolts/spacers being used. See the photo. I was planning to run to homedepot and pick up rubber washers and something else to use as the spacer setup. Is there a recommendation here that cuts down on the squeaking? Thank you. |

Avoid rubber and look for nylon washers. They will not squeak.

Thank you, will do. Would you also use nylon for the spacers themselves?

Use the nylon with washers and make sure everything is TIGHT. It won’t squeak if it can’t move.

See if you can get some 1/2" thick black HDPE or nylon strip about 1" wide and 24" long.
Cut it to about 6" lengths and drill holes where the bolts will go through. If you drill out the holes in the roof and the struts to 5/16 you can use stainless bolts and they will be strong enough to hold it all together, an they won't rust. 1/4" stainless will stretch or shear and break. |

Is there a spacer missing from the one bolt? That may be an issue.

It appears that the previous owner cobbled together some spacers with whatever they had laying around. I agree with everything that's been said, nylon is your friend.

And I get my collection from Ace Hardware. They have bins with every size I ever need.

Thank you all for the great feedback. Will make some adjustments. Prior owner definitely used what they had on hand.
