Unhappy 36 Volt Electric Club Car "Shudder" Help

I have just purchased a 1993 electric Club Car that has a distinct "shudder" that begins after about 20 feet of driving. It smooths out at increased speeds and runs fine until you decrease speed and then re-accelerate. I cleaned and serviced the V-Glide and it seems to work properly.

The cart has what appears to be a Curtis 1204 controller. Couple of questions: Could the controller be the cause of the shuddering, and is there a way to test the controller?

I was hoping I would not have to replace the controller to diagnose the "shuddering" issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How old are the batteries...Normally shuddering is a sign that they are bad...

Check actual pack voltage...it may be low.

Put your meter on pack positive and negative, drive it and watch what the voltage drops to...Then do the same for each battery...

Not sure what you’re considering a shudder, but when I first built mine, it would get up to speed and on smooth surfaces you could feel it slow down (like someone shut off a couple batteries) then it would speed back up like they were switched back on..... when on rough surfaces I could not notice it... I traced it to bad brushes in my motor. Not saying that’s your problem, but at the age it might be.
