king pin bushing removal
Need to replace the king pin bushings (upper and lower) on a 98 cc. Is there any tips to removing the bushings or any special tools needed?

Re: king pin bushing removal
I wish. Been beating the balls off them with a punch down through the center of the spindle. Lower won't budge!

Re: king pin bushing removal
I used an air hammer and they came right out.
I put a chamfer on the new bushings and used a vise to put the new ones in. ream to size... |

Re: king pin bushing removal
I would take the spindles to a machine shop or someone who has a press.
You don't want to beat in the new bushings, they need to be pressed. IMO Also the new bushings may need to be reamed to fit the pins. You may need pins too. Had to do this on my 2003 DS and they are smooth with no play. Cost me $50. Note, take clean parts to the shop and they will smile more. |

Re: king pin bushing removal
Make sure you use the correct parts illustration. Different years have different set ups concerning wave washers, thrust bearings, hard washers, etc. Also placement of the bushings. If you are not the original owner, they may have been put in wrong. On carryalls the bottom bushing has a lip. Ream to fit. Where I work, I obtained a bolt that fit just loose through the bushing and a flat washer. I use it as the tool to install the bushings, then ream them.
