Default Volt meters

I have recently purchased an ezgo cart. I bought it from my friend that had 6 new batteries installed. I was wanting to install a volt meter to help regulate my batteries and to keep from running out of juice when running around.

Any advice or direction would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance

Talking Re: Volt meters

Hook the wires to the main - and main + of the pack. Follow the charger cables to the batteries they connect to. Should be the 2 batteries on the passenger side of the cart. Battery closest to the front will be main + and the battery behind it will be main -.

They draw very little off the batteries so I hook straight up to them and this way you can see right off if the cart is charging.

This cart is 72 volts!

welcome snow. check with carts unlimited, a sponsor. he has a nifty led monitor like in andy's pic, and also a new precut mounting plate that is nice. he also has a lot of good info on how to break in the batts. correctly. just wire it in like andy said. you can leave it on full time, since it draws so little current. looks neat when you can just walk by the cart and see the voltage!

aah! you beat me to it pete.

Welcome to BGW.

This chart will help you get an idea of how much charge is in your batteries when you get the DVM installed.
If you've got a DMM, you can get a pretty good idea of your batteries health before you install the DVM.

In case you aren't aware of it, wet cells batteries have no memory, so they should be put on charge every night.
Basically, the less you discharge the batteries before you recharge them, the longer they last.

Be sure to clean the battery posts and check the battery water level regularly.
Use only distilled water and only fill when fully charged.

Any questions, Just ask, we'll try to help.

I have one of the CU meters and have yet to hook it up. For a 36v pack, about when do you think about going back home based on the total resting voltage?

For instance: "If you have 37v left you have x amount of pedal time left."

That is a good guess. It would be different for every trip....load, hills, soft dirt, wind....all change how fast the get home power is used up. Plus the age of batteries and cart drive train condition will vary it also.

The only way I know is when I don't make it.....
