Wiring lights.... stumped?

Sorry for the ignorance but I have a 1990 EZGO metalist that I inherited I brought it back to life and even gave it a paint job. I installed some 55w lights from wal-mart and they worked fine at first. I removed them during the paint process, after i was finished I hooked everything back up and the lights didnt work? I removed the lights and exchanged them, hooked the new set up and they dont work either. Any suggestions as to where i went wrong......... 55w with a switch ground wire is good on everything lights are hooked up as directed, am I gving the lights to much power. The only thing thats weird to me is that it worked before with no problem... I appreciate your help.

You put in a make shift light kit. you need a volt meter to trace your issue to the source, Check your switch and check at the lights for power. then go back to where you wire this setup to get power. If you use the pack batteries or a acc battery. If you are using an inverter then do you have power from it? Did you install a fuse in this setup? If not you may have tosted the switch with to many amps being drawn. Most light kits will use a relay if the amps are high to keep from burning up a 2 dollar switch.

Get a meter and start probing.

That is a possibility.

If they are 12V bulbs, they have to be powered from an inverter that steps the pack voltage down to 12V, or an auxiliary 12v battery that is separate from the pack, or from across just two of the 6v batteries in the pack.

What is the voltage measured across the two wires that goes to the lights?

The voltage going to the switch is 6.3V

6.3V tells me you are only going across one 6V battery for your lights. You have to go across two 6V batteries to get 12V.

Hopefully, the kit has two wires. going to each light (via a switch in one of them and maybe a fuse)

Connect one wire to the Negative terminal on the rearmost battery on the passenger side.
Connect the other wire to the Positive terminal of the center battery in the rearmost set of three.
