New tires feel soft
Just put a couple of 22x11x8 AT tires on my cart, and they seem a little squishy. They are 4 ply tires and are rated at 340 lbs at 4 lbs of air. I didnt realise that these tires ran such a low pressure, but now that I mounted them, they are mine. But, Im still wondering if they are heavy enough for my cart, + me (260), + a couple bags of deer corn or hopefully a deer or hog.
I only bought 2 right now and was going to buy the other 2 after payday, so right now the new tires are on the back. If need be, i can move them to the front and get some heavier tires, but Ide like to match the treads front and rear. Input is appreciated. |

Re: New tires feel soft
You have as much sidewall as you have bead opening. I can imagine that they feel soft. I'd up the pressure and see if it helps. Try 10-12psi.

Re: New tires feel soft
They have 10 in them now. Would they be ok to add more pressure? They only call for 4 psi.
Its not the air pressure or the soft, smooth, comfortable ride that bothers me. I just dont want them to blow out on the trail when loaded with 600 lbs plus the weight of the cart itself. |

Re: New tires feel soft
With less air, I'd be more worried about the bead coming unsealed than a blowout. I don't know what the maximum allowable pressure of your tire is. I sure wouldn't want to find out with brand new ones!

Also to run lower pressures ( 4-8lbs ) you should have inner tubes. Like " Kab " said, the tire bead can come off the rim! What you have are ATV tires. You may be able to sell them for close to what you paid for them. I'd personally get tires made for a cart. :) |

Re: New tires feel soft
The pressure stamped on them is only 4 psi, but the load carrying capacity is 340 per tire.

Re: New tires feel soft
Not necessarily, just check the load ratings.
I just put on a set of 4 ply tires rated at 850 pounds each and there are many rated higher than that. In fact, I've got 2 ply tires on my riding mower rated at 760 pounds. |
