Bench testing DS motor/controller

I was wondering what I can do to test a 48volt motor and controller from a 99' DS?Is 48volts required,or can it be done with another source?Any help would be great.Thanks!

48v is pretty much required. You could pull a second cart up beside it (put it in run/tow) then disconnect the negative post from the donor cart and using a good quality set of jumper cables (eg thick) connect the pack negative and positive to the main cables in the cart being tested. At best you could "nudge the cart" back and forth to confirm it operates. That's about all I can think of besides getting your hands on 4 x 12v "good" batteries (auto size is fine) for testing.

I know you can test the motor using 12 volts, I hate telling folks to use the search function, but I'm mobile and can't post a link right now. Run a search for "test run a series motor" or "test run a sepex motor" dependent upon which system it is. There should be multiple posts with the instructions.

Not sure about how to bench test a controller though...

Got to a laptop! Here's the info on how to bench test just the motor, this is originally from Stevegrmich.


To test run a series motor

Remove all cables from the motor; connect a jumper from A1 to S1. Connect 12 to 24 volts, positive @ A2 and negative @ S2. Swap S1 and S2 to change rotation direction.

To test run a Sep-Ex (regen) motor

Remove all cables from the motor; connect a jumper from A1 to F1 and a jumper from A2 to F2. Connect 12 to 24 volts, positive @ A1/F1 and negative @ A2/F2. Swap F1 and F2 to change rotation direction.

CAUTION:
Allowing a motor to spin @ high RPM can cause catastrophic failure!

Sounds like it would be easiest to find someone with a cart that has the same controller and swap 'em out to test. If you plan on building an electric cart then you'll probably want to go with an upgraded controller anyhow so you'll have torque, especially since you're big block guys.

Thanks guys , igot the motor to spin off 12 volt jump pack ,i have a friend that dabbles in 48 volt carts i"ll try changing out the controller with one of his projects,
