Point taken--
I ASSUMED they were aluminum because they break so easily when overtightened.

When tightening i will still PRETEND they are aluminum.
I have seen a few "do it yourself" jobs where i had to ezout the bolts.
And got in hurry and wrung one off myself... they break Soooo easy.

Yes-- i think "parking/emergency" brake SHOULD BE IMPROVED
there is no excuse for the failure rate i have seen with these brakes.

that said- brake seems to be the only recurrent problem with RXV's.
An otherwise "trouble free" cart.

Watch out for "New" brake with handle...

EZ hasn't made them for a while..
could be "knock offs" or even worse bad sold as new (like that never happens on ebay)

I think "Newest version" is all metal without paint.(corrections/info on this please?)

Hi All

So I thought I would try one more thing with the RXV and drove it and DID NOT touch the brakes at all once - 2 mins of driving - slam - cart jolted to a stop.

Turned it off and on again - drove find for about 30 seconds - slam - jolted to a stop.

Does NOT touching the brake offer any further reason as to my issue?

Thanks

Lever brake on motor is "Parking/Emergency brake"
not touching brake has no effect.

slamming to stop may be battery or cable/connection issue.

Battery age?
battery type?
battery voltage? pack/individual
Accessories? powered off one battery?

I still suspect batteries.
Watch "gas" gauge.
Often gas gauge will drop rapidly if a battery is bad.
Can you "load test" batteries?
Look for one with lower starting
Voltage or rapid voltage drop under load.
Trojan 12v batteries have lots of problems. EzGo is suing Trojan over 12v batteries.
I would start by checking batteries.

If I install a new rxv break and lock up persist where should I check next? as I am reading a ton of forums suggesting the solenoid is the issue for brake lock up. Should I replace solenoid if problem persist with new brake.

Guys this is NOT a brake failure. the '1 mph and grinding noise' ESPECIALLY on an older RXV with the grey Danhauer controller is a classic symptom of a failed motor encoder bearing, the same thing as a speed sensor on a TXT PDS. (later the RXV got a Curtis system and has a newer speed sensor on the outside of the motor held in by a T-30 Torx screw)

I just replaced a bad encoder bearing on an RXV today, same symptoms. In fact i've come to recognize the classic signs of an encoder failure and a failed brake will NOT allow it to move, or will run and suddenly stop and almost throw you off in the process. some failing brakes will 'unstick' and lurch forward.

The 1MPH crawl state is only triggered from a failed motor encoder. The motor has to be removed, taken apart and a new encoder installed. The RXV i repaired the encoder on today was from a customer who went to a different shop and they assumed the motor itself was faulty. good thing he didn't believe them and spend $2300 on another motor when the $167 encoder was all it needed!
