Default G9 smokes at startup

recently bought a Yamaha golf cart for our seasonal campsite. Been working on painting/ re-upholstering seats and doing basic maintenance prior to the camping season.

from the number under the seat the cart is believed to be a 1993 G9

I changed out the oil and now the cart smokes pretty good at startup when cold.

Searching the site I couldn't find anything on this item.

It will help clear out the mosquitos but I'm sure the wife and other campers may have an issue with it....

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks :)

If it is over filled make sure you clean out your air box, because thats where the extra oil will be.

I have been scared to take the air filter box apart as the previous owner had it zip-tied on as the tabs were broke off. I know the vacuum is critical to this motor... suppose I should get the filter replaced anyways if I have the box open.

during the oil change I only put 1 quart in and verified that only 1 quart came out.

may need some help with the compression test as I've never done one.

will get back and let you know what I find.

Thanks for the responses. I'm tracking down a compression tester and will get back with the results.

Just ordered the tune up kit: air/fuel filters and new spark plug.

Not planning on opening up the air filter box until the new filter arrives.

Update: tune up kit arrived and I replaced the spark plug and air filter.

didn't see any oil in the air filter box but the old filter was disgusting....

fired her up and didn't see any more smoke...

didn't really feel like playing with a nearly full tank of gas to replace the fuel filter at the bottom of the tank at this time, spent the time tearing apart brakes and getting them working properly... what a pain when the hub is rusted to the drum....

Thanks again for the responses and suggestions.... getting the cart loaded up for summer at the campground!
