G8 blows 10a fuse with voltage regulator plugged in
I finally got my freshly rebuilt G8 motor running well. The only problem left is that if I have the voltage regulator connected, it blows the 10a fuse every time I press the pedal to start the motor. If I disconnect the voltage regulator, the cart starts and runs fine, it just won't charge the battery. I found some old threads on this forum and tried the recommendations, but am still not able to fix the problem. I thought maybe I had a short somewhere in the starter generator, replaced it, but same problem exists.
Any suggestions on where to start looking? Thanks in advance. |

Re: G8 blows 10a fuse with voltage regulator plugged in
That's right. I had a used fleet cart and someone I'm assuming a maintenance worker at a golf course grounded the solenoid to the frame. The 10amp fuse was blown the entire time I owned the cart but still ran fine.

Re: G8 blows 10a fuse with voltage regulator plugged in
I downloaded the wiring diagram and used it to try and follow the wiring in the cart. All of the grounds seem to go to the negative post on the battery. I'm not an electrician, and frankly, reading the wiring diagram is almost like reading Chinese for me. I took off the protective tape on the harness to try and find a short, melted, or broken wire and found nothing that looked like a potential problem. Again the cart starts and runs fine as long as the VR is not connected. With the VR connected, the 10 amp fuse blows as soon as you press the pedal.
Any other ideas? |

Re: G8 blows 10a fuse with voltage regulator plugged in
Did this problem get resolved?
If so, what was the cause of the problem? I've got the same problem with a G8. If I run the engine and hot wire the the coil on the generator it runs and charges fine. If I hook up the regulator it blows the fuse immediately. |

Re: G8 blows 10a fuse with voltage regulator plugged in
This is usually caused by a failed regulator. If you replace it get an OEM part. I’ve seen a number of brand new aftermarket ones that are bad or shorted right out of the box.

I am having this same issue right now. Was it just a bad voltage regulator? The issue is driving me nuts.
