Re: Missfire and arching
It's late and I'm done. Thank you for your help. I'm going to review everything in the morning and see what I come up with. I hope you are available again

Re: Missfire and arching
Make sure that the connections are clean and tight between the battery negative and the frame, and from the frame to the motor.

Re: Missfire and arching
Hi 1989
I pulled all the ground connections and cleaned things up. Managed to get it running (again only on full choke) and i could feel the arching on the back of my leg that was touching the frame. I don't know what else to do and I don't want to sink a fortune into it just trying hit and miss. I can't find a coil and wire anywhere on line. It's all for newer models. Any thoughts? |

Re: Missfire and arching
It sounds like the high voltage from the coil to the plug is able to able to find it's way to the frame somehow. Maybe fire it up in a dark area and look around the engine bay for arcing. Is the coil grounded well to the side of the motor? Again, a picture speaks a thousand words...

Re: Missfire and arching
Don't know how to attach pics. Go figure. There they are.
I ran it again in the dark and sure enough no are or shock. Had to be full choke still to run then died |

Having to run it with full choke could be a few things. 1. Check compression. 2. Clean the carb jets. 3. Crank seals may be bad. 4. Fuel delivery to the carb. 5. Float setting. |

Re: Missfire and arching
It looks like somebody relocated the battery to the bag well, and used jumper cables as extensions. That kind of makes all of the wiring suspect now.
THE FOLLOWING ONLY APPLIES IF YOU ARE STILL GETTING SHOCKED. I still believe that it is somewhere in the high energy circuit. If a good plug, and wire were installed, that leaves a breakdown of the coil. I used a round $15 coil from amazon. I'm willing to bet that every auto parts store carries them. |

Re: Missfire and arching
Yup. Still getting shocked. So, any coil will do?? I'm willing to put a coil, plug and wire into it but if it needs crank seals or some of the other stuff 1989 mentioned, then there will be a cart for sale. I really appreciate all your posts and help
