Default Sticking Clutch - 2pg

hello everyone, i am the new proud owner of a mismatched (pre 80?) 3 wheel ez go, the one with the internal starter/generator

after messing with a hairball of previous owners wires it seems to run great,

Now onto the Problem!

when accelerating the clutch generally works fine, but it does not release when decelerating & when you try to restart the belt tension prevents it from starting ( if you give it a push it will get up to speed and start.)

once and a while it will snap free and work fine for awhile, then it will stick again

is there a simple fix for this, replacing the clutch is not an option, the cart was free and im willing to put time into it, but not much money.

Witch clutch is sticking drive or driven?

Drive you need to remove the clutch, takes a special tool witch can be purchased or improvised with a bolt and a spacer, and clean it and check for broken bits and rust.
Last one i saw doing this was rusted badly and the after a good cleaning it worked great for awhile. Then it did it again. The return spring broke. 15-25$ on ebay.

Have read on this site about some driven clutch issues. Almost all exposed so you can usually see the issue.

Try dry lube on both clutches (graphite) and it will work for awhile.

clutch attached to engine is drive or driven?

thats the one acting up, i pulled the main bolt and it revealed a copper colored spacer shoved in there, which is shredded, im going to look for something to replace it and see from there.

Engine clutch is the drive clutch.
