Did you check the black/green/red wires at the voltage regulator wire harness coupler?

We shorted the green wire to the black wire at the V/R connector (with the V/R unplugged) and the cart engine quit when he pulled the positive cable off of the battery. So, the S/G isn't exciting.

Then, with the key on and the pedal pushed and the engine disabled (pulled plug wire) we checked for +12V at the Green wire on the V/R connector (with the V/R out) and there was no voltage. There should have been.

So, I started the checking at the +12V on the R/W wire (it's there and good), then checked continuity thru the S/G (that's good), and we are making our way thru the system toward the V/R connector.

That's why I think there has to be a broken connection at the S/G connector or the Green wire between the S/G connector and the V/R connector.

Actually Tailslid,

A better check would be to do this:

Take the S/G connector apart and jumper the R/W wire from the cart side of the connector to the Red wire on the S/G side of the connector.

Then, on the S/G side of the connector, jumper the Green wire from the S/G directly to ground (or neg battery terminal).

Like this:

Then start the cart and check the voltage output of the S/G (pull the heavy red cable off the positive battery post).

That will help determine if the loss of continuity is upstream or downstream of the S/G connector.

Tell us what you find.

I noticed something weird. I moved the s/g belt while I was testing. The fuel pump ran. I moved it again. The fuel pump ran again. If I continuously move the s/g belt back and forth the fuel pump never shuts off.

Is the fuel pump, driven from a crankshaft sensor or Is my cart possessed?

Rick
Not certain about this, Rick. But, if it is the pneumatic driven pump like on my G8, then it should pump as you roll the engine over.

Ok. I hooked the s/g directly to the battery. It ramped voltage up to about 16v at high speed.

I double checked the r/w at the s/g connection. It had 12v with pedal pressed. So is our issue with the green wire circuit?

Is there supposed to be 12v at the s/g connector between the r/w green? I have 12v between r/w and battery ground. But no voltage between r/w and green.

One last time. Did you check the wire harness coupler leads at the AVR for a broken wire?

Do you mean pull on the wire to make sure it doesn't come out of the back of the connector or test between the pins with a meter to check voltage or resistance?

I didn't see any obviously loose wires, but I didn't put a meter on anything as I didn't know what to test.

Rick, I'm asking you to visually inspect the green/red/black wires at the plastic wireharness coupler that plugs into the voltage regulator. I have had several EFI cars that wouldn't charge and it was one of those 3 wires broken off right at the spade terminal that is "swedged" into the plastic fitting. Unplug the connector and really look close at the wires and take a picture.

Ok I looked at both ends of the connector. To the untrained eye, it appears fine. It looks like all wires are solid.
