Stuipid "value power" walmart barttery would not get the cart to turn over. I replaced the postitive terminal, now both are new, and hooked up amp meter. Starter pulls 5 amps and does nothing, hook up metro battery that is a tiny battery, starter pulls 7 amps at inital and then 5 amps. Fired right up. Im going back to walmart to see my options, thanks guys.

Buddy, get the biggest battery that will fit in there, mine is around 750 CCA!!

That will start any car that I have, (so I have a back-up battery) in the event one goes bad!!

I agree with Mike, group 24 and at least 650 CCA. With the high compression on these engines and they will stop on the compression stroke, you need the CCA's to turn the engine over.

I dunno, for years I ran a car battery that died in the winter, so in summer I put it in the cart and ran it for 3 more years no problem (and leaving it in the cart all winter unheated too). When the last one died I had no spare batteries so I ran the cart on a jumper pack in the fall, so I could buy a new battery in spring and not have it sit around that winter. IMO if the battery is a full 12v and charged and will start a car on a good warm day, it will run the cart no problem. However, it is VERY common for the cables to not connect well and other electrical issues on these old carts. And of course make sure its charged not all new batteries have a good charge....just the same a cart working properly takes way way way less power to start than a car. So any crappy battery should work including a lawn battery, but I don't recommend those because they only last a year or two in anything even in the house, they are a waste of money.

^ group 75, i think thats the gm equilavant to fords group 65. I got the 65 because my ford diesel has 2.

Well to add to the story, my alternater is out on my ford and i tried to use the new battery to help jump the truck so i could move it out of the garage so i could work on the cart. I must have drained it flat even though when i was trying it it was reading 13v. I just checked it now and reads 11v. I only had it jumping the truck for about 5 minutes. I put it on the charger i will try again in about a hour or so. Battery has one year warenty.

BCI groups don't change from manufacturer to manufacturer. A group 75 is a group 75, no matter where you buy it. But beware of funny stuff like Group 75R with reverse locations of pos & neg terminals.
