Just so you know a compression tester won't show leak down there's a valve core in it that allows air in but not out

You need need a leak down tester and an air compressor to see the percentage of leakage at top dead center and listen to where the air is leaking out. If you hear it in the exhaust its likely an exhaust valve. Out of the carb then its the intake valve. Out of the crankcase then its your rings. Spitting out the carb has almost got to be the intake valve if your getting 135 compression.

If it's backfireing out the intake it's probably leaning out. Could you post a picture of your intake setup?

Both of my junky g9s would do that with the same busted air box. Even tho one burned oil and had less comp than the other. I put a bag 3/4 the way over the air filter. Both ran good the one with the better engine had lot more power. Outran my moms 5k$ 48v Club car on 22s. Mine is on 20s.

Valves are corded up with soot. Open it up and poor trans fluid down carb until it smokes really good, about half cup with high throttle are it will die and will be hard to start.Run it around until it stops smoking, change plug and ride.

If your airbox is messed up you have to fix it, seal it, or jet the carb richer. It can also foul your plug out in minutes and it will not run or do strange things like fire and quit or fire once in a while. Sometimes you can pull the boot part way off the plug so there is a gap in there and it will fire and run.

You did the best thing you could do taking it to a shop. The issue I have with people is -- Oh my cart's got a problem -- lets just keep driving it -- OH OH the problem is getting worst - help me - lets drive it some more. Sounds to me like it has a burn intake valve. If it is capable of blowing the air filter off of the engine - it definitely could have blown out the carburetor mount gaskets. Have you had your side cover open for any reason? If so were the timing marks correct?
When you did your compression test -- throttle wide open and 5 compression strokes?
