Default No spark

Have been piddling (technical term) with a 1989 marathon. ran fine, then jacked it up, put lift kit on, lights, etc. Now, no fire at all at the spark plug. Have checked obvious...wires pulled out, grounded, etc but don't see anything. I have the cart jacked up on stands all the way around. Could this mean it's not getting a good ground and won't fire til I lower it on the ground? Appreciate this sight and all its experts!

Hello turkey lurkey and Welcome to the forum.

Get your volt meter and start checking the common voltages going to the engine from the key switch.

THe 'ground' comes from the negative side of the battery....so my guess is the motor is not grounded ...what does your test light say?

Well, you won't believe it. Before I even got the tester out, I jiggled some wires near the key switch and "viola", it now has "spark". there was an extra/spare wire coming out of the key switch, neg. side that might have been touching something to ground it. I just hope this isn't an intermittent issue. Thanks to all!

Well I'm dead again. Have replaced the key switch, engine turns over fine, but no spark. Checked continuity from battery out to coil wire, no problems. Can anyone tell me how to test ignitor, pulsar coil, or primary coil? Many thanks!

Well, believe it or not, I still have intermittent spark problems after all this time. Changed pulsar coil and was hopeful. Some days, runs great, no problem. Other times, turns over but no spark at all. I then do something like loosen and re-tighten wires at battery terminal and it fires up. I saved the thread from ruredy some time back to replace ignitor and coil with an HEI ignition module and automobile coil. Don't understand why sometimes it works, sometimes not??
