Default First electric cart questions....

Yamaha G2E, 36 V, 2 new batteries, others in good shape.

So, on flat terrain this thing's a HOOT, but as soon as you get into some slopes or hills, performance really drops off.

I'm coming off a 2003 G22 gas, and of course this was no issue.

Is this normal for all electric models, or could the other 4 batteries be bad?

Slopes varie, anywhere from 6 to 25%

How do I check the condition/charge of the batteries? As I mentioned, this is my first electric GC, 2 batteries are new and the guy told me the other 4 were fine...

2 new batteries and 4 that are "good" is recipe for issues.

Check this out:

http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...batteries.html

When batteries are mixed, there is no way to evenly charge them. Understand that the new batteries don't lose charge as quickly as the older ones. As such, when charging the new batteries will charge higher then they need to and the old batteries won't charge as high as they need to. 4 batteries that aren't charging as high as they need to will reflect a loss of torque and that's what you are experiencing.

Could be cruddy old slow motor helping out too. Here's a easy test. Plug your volt meter into the charger port and drive it around. The voltage drop on the hills will tell the real tale of how Good those batteries are.

Can you recommend a good volt meter from Amazon?

My opinion you can't go wrong with a Fluke Meter.

In reality, the $5 harbor freight basic volt meter will serve just fine for the home gamer. Would not last long in a shop for daily beat downs.

Thanks. I know nothing about electronics but will get one in the hopes I can learn how to use it.

What I'm noticing from my first time foray into electric carts is, it's complicated!!!

I loved my Yammy G22 gasser, simple, easy to use, and gas engines I know.

What is the big benefit of electric anyways? I mean, aside from the obvious quite operation. I'm seriously considering going back
