Default Installed new clutch cart slow to accelerate

I just installed a new clutch, which is different from the old original OEM style clutch. The new clutch is called a comet clutch. Anyway it seems I have to get the engine revved up higher to get the same speed I used to get before. I'm thinking maybe the clutch belt is old and stretched and a new one might help. The belt looks good and doesn't look worn but I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with this kind of thing. This clutch belt is very old probably 15 or 20 years the original one

What cart? What engine? What is the clutch out of? Do you have any pics?

If it's a Comet Duster / 94c clutch it might be tuned incorrectly. Some clutches are adjustable, most are not. Pics would help ID the clutch.

Sorry, 1997 G16 gas. Attached is a photo of the clutch and a video of it running. It seems the engine has to get to a higher RPM to engage the belt and ultimately move the vehicle or increase speed

Was that clutch supposed to be a replacement for this cart?

If not, what cart was it made for?

If this clutch was made for a two stroke cart it could be tuned for a higher engagement. But I'm wondering what the condition of the secondary clutch is in? The secondary usually controls the speed of the upshift, the primary controls the engagement.

The belt measurement new would be 1 3/16". Take a measurement and if it's less than 1 1/8" it needs to be replaced.

sorry, could not upload video. Here is a link to 20 seconds of the engine revving up and engaging the clutch belt.

yes, this clutch was made for the G16. The original OEM clutch is no longer the preferred option, they came up with a new design. I will measure the belt

thanks

Yeah it looks like the belt is pretty loose. Take a measurement. The belt should ride all the way to the top of the sheaves when it isn't running, I'm seeing that it isn't, which could be a worn belt.

Also, inspect the secondary clutch sheaves. Look for "dished" faces. The faces of the sheaves should be straight and flat without any wear marks. If there is any dishing or wear grooves then they need replaced.

If the secondary clutch isn't working properly it will cause the condition you are describing.
