Default 3 Red Flashes on Charger

Hey Everyone,

Just bought my first cart and unfortunately I’m already here trying to trouble shoot. The guy I bought the cart from screwed me over, long story short the cart is older than he said and so are the batteries. My fault for trusting him and not verifying.

Anyways, just charged the cart for the first time after it dying on me. It charged for around 12-13 hours I believe, and then the charger started flashing 3 red lights. I looked it up and it says it’s a charger timeout. The reasons I found were either the batteries are too depleted and can’t fully charge, the charger got too hot, or the batteries are too old and can’t reach the right voltage.

My question is, after I unplugged it can I let it sit for a few and then try charging it again? Or will that be pointless/cause more damage to the batteries?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like it's time for some new batteries.

Forgot to add that when the cart died on me, the battery meter showed it was almost full (one tick under full). Now after charging it the cart feels fully charged when taking off but the meter flashes between red and orange.

If your batteries are fully charged take a ride and see how long they last. That's the best way to find out just what shape they are in.

Agree. You can continue to use the cart as long as it gets you to where you want to go but the charger will give the same fault over and over and eventually (not long) the cart won't go the distance you need. Battery meters are notoriously misleading when batteries are near or at end of life.
Replace with true golf cart batteries. All the same capacity etc.
In my experience sellers misrepresenting the cart and battery age whether intentional or not is extremely common.

Trojan battery company has some nice videos on all things battery related. They would apply to other brands as well. They are short, only a few minutes long each. https://www.trojanbattery.com/multimedia/#TrojanTips
