clutch question
alright, I'm a bit confused. which clutch do you get machined? The one at the rear axle, which I believe is the driven clutch, or the one at the crank shaft which is the drive clutch? also, which one gets the spring upgrade? I have the engine from my 99 on my work bench and I want to go through it. It leaks at the side case gasket. figured I would send out the clutch but which one. I took off the drive or front crank clutch. How hard is it to take off the driven rear clutch? Just take out the bolt and slide it off or does it come apart in halves. I am guessing that the spring is the one you replace with a stiffer one. also, what is the black plastic box with wire feeds that is bolted to the front of the engine, under the head, next to the oil fill. Is this the rev limiter. I am new to this and flying by the seat of my pants here. just sold my vette so I have nothing to wrench on so the golf cart will do for now. Thanks guys

Re: clutch question
It all depends on what your looking to get out of it... speed, or torque?
(Front) Drive clutch = Higher top speed (+ 1 or 2 mph, with a slight loss of torque) (Rear) Driven clutch = More low end torque (with a slight loss of top end speed) The driven clutch is "supposed to" just slide off the shaft after removing the bolt, But, sometimes the transaxle rusts, which makes removal of the clutch much more difficult! My 07 slid right off, my buddies 94 however, is still stuck on... two hours of beating on it with a BFH, we gave up! and yes... the black box on the lower front of your engine is the Rev Limiter. |
