Squeaky belts. WD40 or belt conditioner?
my cart has been squeaking when started and when running at slow speeds. I have some automobile belt conditioner and WD40. should I apply these or is there something better I should use?
Thanks |

NO on the WD40 thats an oil. Use the belt conditioner , but I would say your belts need replaced if they are sqeeking

I would use a couple of wrenches and tighten the belt.
If it is the drive belt, replace it. Anything else is snake oil. |

Crash your right on. The days of belt dressings are over 40's-50's flat belt maybe but not with a v belt only to check to see which belt needs replaced.

Re: Squeaky belts. WD40 or belt conditioner?
belt dressings will only shorten the life of belts. i went to a sales class last year in jacksonville fl. johnson controls and browning belts put on the class. the rep for browning told us that belt dressing are a great seller. two reasons, it will stop a belt from sqeaking and also cause premature belt failure which means more belt sales. three things are the usual problem causing belt to squeal. 1) worn out belt 2) pullies are out of alingment 3) something got onto the belt such as oil or grease

Re: Squeaky belts. WD40 or belt conditioner?
I have been having the same issue but the reason for my belt squeal is I have a S/G bracket missing and it falls down some which allows the tension to lessen. I get a glossy pulley out of that deal and know that isn't helping anything. So I took the brand new belt off and sanded the pully with 60 grit by just holding the sandpaper in the pulley and hitting the gas. Seems to help out a ton but the more you use reverse and then forward the more it looses tension and squeaks :). So staying in forward helps the most for me :). I'm going to weld up the bracket soon but will have to find a slotted piece and do some engineering and the hodge podge job I have now should last me the rest of the summer anyways :).
