We found some very robust crank seals that cross over to a Polaris snowmobile engine. They have two serious sealing ridges. Will press in tomale night... |

Looks like someone replaced piston and jug along with the easy to get to crankshaft seal on the drive clutch side- it didn't show much wear - the flywheel side seal had 50 thousands wear!! Hopefully problem solved ....

Keeps running worse and worse - replaced other crank seal, tested pulser pickup coil, spark good - same as good running cart- plenty of fuel - good compression now just burbles out smoke & wet black gook. I think it is time to tear down & split the case - possible air leak....

Update- pulled head & piston - piston shot & rings shot. Got first overbore .25 mm piston in today (broken) and I'm having block bored and head milled .020 to boost compression. Also found main running problem - NO reed valve between block & intake !!!

looks like the problem was the cheap-o "master pro" HEI module - put back stock module & coil - timing looked much better and runs "OK" but still slower than my 87..... What's strange is with the HEI it was showing two alternating timing marks on the cooling fan - it kept bouncing back & forth about 25 degrees retarded.???
