Lost ball high weeds
O.K. I have a 88 Marathon 2 cycle and here is my dilema. Key off and cart in neutral the cart acts like it should...nothing happens. As soon as you move the shifter to forward and or reverse it starts to crank (key off mind you). I have checked the micro switch at the gas pedal and it has on/off continuity. I have checked the ignition switch, it has on/off continuity. I have also unpluged the 2 micro switches at the reverse/forward switch and it will still crank when moved into gear (key off). I replaced my solenoid from one of our sponsors and no change. I'm lost....... please

Re: Lost ball high weeds
It sounds like someone has really messed with the wiring. I would suggest getting the wiring diagam out of the sticky above and find out what has been mis-wired.

Re: Lost ball high weeds
The wiring has not been touched since I have owned it. I drove it for a good month then one day the crank bolt came loose. I retightened it and now I have the cranking issue. Does the reverse forward switch have power when the micro switches are unpluged? If not, then why would it crank. It looks like once the micro switches are unpluged, then the only thing left are the cables. Is there a switch on the clutch or diff?

Re: Lost ball high weeds
This is the diagram for my 89 Marathon. Your's should be similar, if not identical.
With the switch in neutral, check to see if you have 12vdc between F2 on the starter and ground. |

Re: Lost ball high weeds
You shouldn't have 12vdc on F2 unless the solenoid is pulled in, or it is mis-wired.

Re: Lost ball high weeds
A mis-wired Solenoid is my guess too - I recently had the same issue with the starter running continuously on my Workhorse, turned out one of the solenoid nuts was loose on a small post and one of the wires had moved to where it was bridging the 2 small posts, easy fix once I found it :)

Re: Lost ball high weeds
Sounds like a wire may be shorted in the switch-harness for the solenoid.Try removing the small wires from the solenoid, then connect one at a time. When it turns, trace that wire, look for a short. Also test the solenoid, make sure its' cycling,it could be stuck.Hope this helps.
