Yamaha G9 won't run

Does not start. Backfires. Seems like timing is off. Have had engine apart and replaced the balancing cam. The timing inside the engine is correct. Replaced carb, and spark plug.
Looking for advice before I keep buying parts I don't need.

Whats the compression? How strong does the spark look? If these are good, next thing id do is find TDC on compression stroke, mark it on the clutch and crankcase, then check it all out with a timing light (one with an adjustment knob will me most usefull) to see where spark timing is at.
