Extending/Raising Aluminum Bar for Canopy

I am trying to figure out the best way for extending/raising the canopy. I purchased some 1" square aluminum tubing at hardware store. I am considering cutting (at the bend) the top bars that are bent 90 degrees that support the canopy and adding 6-8" (straight up) of square tubing.

Any ideas from experience on how to do this?

I thought about flat brackets on each of the for sides hold the pieces (butting them) together. I think this will be creeky/rickety.

I don't have the equipment to weld anything.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Your prop going to have to slug the inside of the tubing. Then I would find a weld shop and see if they can tig weld it together. You will be better off.

I wanna try and rig something up out of my garage without having to weld it.

There's gotta be some sort of bracket/brace/clamp the would be strong enough?

can you find a piece of tubing that fits either snuggly outside or inside of the existing tubing. then cut it in the middle of the uprights than sleeve it together possibly with some self tapping screws.

That's actually not a bad idea at all. I could then salvage the bent portion that's attached to the canopy itself (and not have to rig up a new piece to attach the canopy)...just slip it over the top. I'll have to look for a tube of aluminum that's just a bit smaller to try that route.

cylinder-over-cylinder I'm picturing in my head.

You think the self-tapping screws would hold up to the vibration? my cart is a gas cart.

Lathe screws be better for this type of application?

What rear supports do you have? I know that on the older carts, the extruded aluminum will take a 5/8" chunk of ground rod exactly

I'm not sure what you mean....they are roughly 1" wide. I matched up a scrap piece of 1" square aluminum tubing with the butt of the aluminum on the cart.

The cart support bar is not a "true" square though. It has an indention on all 4 sides of the bar (kind of a dip like this ] in each side).

And do you mean ground rod as in we used to use ground rod in the military to ground the communications equipment? Flat long rebar-like?

It was what I grounded my electric service with. Galvanized 5/8 rod
